Forum Glass Technology
Glass – a material rich in tradition, that goes along with us for more than 5000 years and we use it more than before in our modern daily life for architecture, mobility, communication and smart home.
The requirements on products made of glass are still growing. Every day one can see new technological and market-depending challenges for the machine- and plant manufacturers of glass production, processing and finishing.
We, the Forum Glass Technology, are your partners. We help you to embrace these challenges and develop solutions.
We organize the network. We pick-up and accumulate your positions. We represent the interests of all organized machine- and plant manufacturers. In Germany, in Europe and in many other countries of the world.
We also pave ways. Into new markets, to new and deeper knowledge and innovative technologies. Join and become a part of our glass technology network!
In the last weeks the OPC-JWG Glass Technology Initiative organized a virtual plugfest in cooperation with umati (universal machine technology Interface). The goal of the event was the prototypical implementation of the OPC UA standard 40601-1 "OPC-UA for Glass Technology Part 1: flat glass" for validation in different applications.
On November 26, 2020, the industrial working group "Research & Technology" took place for the second time as an online event. 66 participants informed themselves about the current approaches and developments in the use of artificial intelligence in glass construction and glass machine manufacturing.
Mir Stekla, trade fair for machinery and equipment for the glass industry, will take place in Moscow from 22 to 25 March 2021. The registration documents for the German joint stand at Mir Stekla are now available.
Sustainability and the circular economy are increasingly influencing work and production processes in glass manufacturing, too. While these aspects have long been key aspects in the hollow glass industry, the flat glass industry is in a more difficult position.
While processes such as laser sintering in the field of metallic materials or fused deposition modeling have been used for years in the field of plastics, the production of glass components is still difficult.
The 60 small and medium-sized companies of the German glass machinery and plant industry which are members of VDMA achieve an annual turnover of 850 Mio Euros (2012). Two thirds of this can be attributed to exports. The industry employs about 5,000 people. At VDMA, 150 companies are dealing with the topic of glass in one way or the other.
