Glass – a material rich in tradition, that goes along with us for more than 5000 years and we use it more than before in our modern daily life for architecture, mobility, communication and smart home.
The requirements on products made of glass are still growing. Every day one can see new technological and market-depending challenges for the machine- and plant manufacturers of glass production, processing and finishing.
We, the Forum Glass Technology, are your partners. We help you to embrace these challenges and develop solutions.
We organize the network. We pick-up and accumulate your positions. We represent the interests of all organized machine- and plant manufacturers. In Germany, in Europe and in many other countries of the world.
We also pave ways. Into new markets, to new and deeper knowledge and innovative technologies. Join and become a part of our glass technology network!
Artificial intelligence simulates human thought processes. It can detect and process images, recognise language, make decisions, and translate into different languages. But can it also work without humans?
Automation and digitalisation are making their mark on glass as a product and on how it is made. They therefore require digital forms of tracking and methods to manage and exploit the glut of data being produced.
Where does the glass come from? And where does it go? With increasing digitalisation, it is becoming more and more important to be able to track production and logistics routes, ideally throughout the entire life cycle.
The general meeting of the Glass Technology Forum on 1 July 2021 confirmed the positive trend in mechanical engineering. Things are looking up. The largest export market is Europe, followed by the USA and China.
While processes such as laser sintering in the field of metallic materials or fused deposition modeling have been used for years in the field of plastics, the production of glass components is still difficult.
The 60 small and medium-sized companies of the German glass machinery and plant industry which are members of VDMA achieve an annual turnover of 850 Mio Euros (2012). Two thirds of this can be attributed to exports. The industry employs about 5,000 people. At VDMA, 150 companies are dealing with the topic of glass in one way or the other.
